In Favour of Phone Calls

One of the depressing things about living and working in London is travelling by tube and watching everybody in the carriage staring down at their phones. Perhaps 1 in 100 is actually reading a book. It reminds me of a really great video that was made for Moby & the Void Pacific Choir – ‘Are You Lost in the World Like Me?’

The video is really sensational and it’s made by American animator Steve Cutts – check it out below.

I think we’ve all got to remember, or relearn, how to speak to each other. My big suggestion is that instead of texting or Whatsapping or any of that, pick up the phone and actually speak to somebody. There’s nothing to be afraid of!

Before anyone gets a complex in London or England about poor communication skills, whenever I come back to a small Greek island, I notice – horror upon horror – that everyone is looking down into their phones too.

That’s why I love hosting the How to Stay Sane in an Insane World podcast – we get to have these in-depth conversations about really thought-provoking topics. It’s also why I find 1-1 mental health mentoring so fulfilling.

How do you feel about phone calls vs texts or Whatsapp? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
