Films – I don’t have one singular film in quite the same way, but Avatar has always deeply moved me. I feel like I should share something more highbrow! But it always really moves me - it speaks to our disconnection from nature, the wisdom of the earth and the cost of forgetting our relationship with both.
- Music – Florence and the Machine, Nick Mulvey, Motown, Barry White
- Books – Radical Acceptance – Tara Brach Tara has been a huge teacher for me. Her work always brings me back to compassion, perspective and the reminder that we can continually return to ourselves with greater kindness and friendship. Papillon – Henri Charrière I read this repeatedly when I was younger. It gave me a deep sense of courage, adventure and freedom, and sparked my desire to travel, experience the vastness of the world and witness the many ways people live. In fact, it might be time to read it again! My Darling Girl – Henny Flynn A beautiful collection of poetry written as love notes to our younger selves. Henny actually began writing this on retreat with me many years ago, and it’s become something I return to often both personally and within my work.
- Poetry – I also deeply love Sufi poetry, particularly Rumi and Hafez. One of my favourite lines is: “I wish I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being.” — Hafez This feels deeply connected to both my own journey and the heart of the work I do with others.
